Snow, what a Wallop!

Over a foot on snow fell on Thursday. The city stood partially still. It was not the day of the snow, but afterwards when the city was partially paralyzed. That’s when the effects started to sink in.

It sank in partially because of the 13-14inches of snow that remained behind, but also the weatherman announced an even larger dump of snow 3 days later. We did not know what was in store! Even the school system asked the kids to stay home during the day the snow fell.

During the first snowfall, it was a slow, but steady snowfall, all day long. Seemed rather innocent. That innocence piled up all day long and ended up leaving about 13-14 inches of snow on the ground.

did school closed on Friday?

Traffic over the next few days were slowed down, but people were still out and about doing their thing. Life moved on.

The city decided to give an extra boost to clear the snow, because 3 days later, an even larger snow storm was predicted! Up to 16 or 17″. They wanted to clear off at least part of the first wave pounding of snow.

As predicted, the snow started falling early Sunday morning. Just like the first snow storm, the snow drifted to the ground in an innocent manner as if trying to say hi and wish us a good day. The problem is that too much of a good thing can cause big problems.

I needed to step out and get a few items at the grocery store. While the roads were drivable, there was not much extra room, and barely two lanes on any residential street.

I ended up coming face to face with a dominos pizza delivery guy. He kept coming at me, knowing we were at a impasse. He was not going to budge. Adimint in his position. I figured that could back into a driveway, and let him pass. But, he needed to back up 10-15 feet. Communication via hand signals did not do well! 🙁 After a couple of minutes of total non understanding, I stepped out of the car and asked him to move back.

He did. I was then able to back into driveway, let him pass, and be on my merry way!!

Getting to the grocery store was slow and uneventful. Oh yeah, the city bus and I were side by side at a light, The light changed to green.we both started moved forward, I began to realize that the two lanes were merging into one lane. The bus and I were both going the same speed, and only one will fit. I decided that I’d be the lower in the race to the merged lanes and I did not want to scratch the car. I pressed the break and let the giant slide by to avoid an accident:)

At the grocery store, it was pretty empty. I was able t get in and out pretty quickly. I got home without another potential road rage and bus incident:)

Well, in the morning, the damage was visible. The streets were only visible thanks to the work of a snowplow that have passed the night before. While this allowed cars to drive, it is only a single lane, causing issues.

Funny how a little snow, and the need/dependency of getting out and driving, even on a terrible day. Well, we need to slow down, enjoy the simple things:)

We can let things down, and find ways to avoid the bad weather outside:)
