I had been planning to use the long strip of earth behind the smart blocks in the backyard for something, but then an idea came to me during the day. Why not plant onion bulbs there instead?
So that’s what I did. I picked up a pack of onion bulbs—wasn’t sure how many we’d need or how far they’d go, but a single pack seemed like a good starting point.
The next day, Alvin and I pulled everything together. Got the tools out, grabbed a long stick to draw a line in the soil, and marked out where the bulbs would go. Between the two of us, we made three lines across the strip.
Then came the planting. We spaced them about five or six inches apart—using our fingers as a rough measuring tool for depth. We made hole after hole, planted a bulb in each one, and kept going until we ran out of bulbs. It’s not the most precise method, but it works.
Once we finished planting all of them, we covered everything up and gave the whole strip a good douse of water. That should be enough to get them established.
Simple work, but satisfying. Sometimes the best ideas come when you’re just thinking things through.
